Do I have to work for a Real Estate Company or can I just work for myself when I get a Real Estate License?

The short answer to this question is that you must work under a Broker-in-charge of a Real Estate Company for the first three years as a licensed agent. The reason is because you must either be a Broker-in-charge or you must work under the supervision of one. South Carolina License law requires new agents to have a real estate license for three years before you can get a brokers license.

So you will have to affiliate with a Broker-in-charge of a Real Estate Company for the first three years. Now that prompts another question, when do I have to identify a Broker-in-charge to work with? The answer is prior to receiving your license. You may take the state mandated sixty hour first year sales course and take the state exam without having a broker-in-charge. After you have completed the state exam, you will have to have a broker-in-charge sponsor you before the Real Estate Commission will cut you a license to practice real estate.

Although every real estate agent must work under a broker-in-charge, most agents are considered independent contractors and in essence, work for themselves. Should you affiliate with a broker-in-charge and feel like you have not made the best decision as to the best broker-in-charge to work with, you may transfer your license to another broker-in-charge at any time.

There are many outstanding Real Estate Companies with superior Brokers-in-charge. The Real Estate School for Success works very close with these companies and will provide you with contact information for each. The Real Estate School for Success recommends every new agent speak to at least three Brokers-in-charge before making a decision. Each Company offers something different and it will be up to you to ensure the company you decide to affiliate with has to same goals and objectives as you do. Just because a company does not have the same goals as you do, that does not mean you or the company have bad goals, you just have different goals. Do not affiliate with a company that does not share the same goals as you. If you do, the company will be moving in a different direction than you resulting in considerable stress and very little likelihood that either you or the company will meet your goals.

If owning and operating your own real estate company is a goal of yours, the Real Estate School for Success can help you make it happen. As we said earlier, you must work as a salesman under the supervision of a Broker-in-charge for three years. After the initial three years as a licensed agent, you may take the Broker Course with the Real Estate School for Success, take a Broker state exam and begin writing your next chapter in your real estate profession as the owner/broker of your real estate company.

What is the MLS or Multiple Listing Services? The MLS or Multiple Listing Services is a private institution that is funded by membership dues. The Multiple Listing Services allows for South Carolina Real Estate Agents to list their properties so that other agents can find and show these properties. It is basically a search engine for real estate. The MLS provides all the details about a property like square footage, the numbers bedrooms, size of the lot, the age of the house, construction type, and many other details. Careers in South Carolina Real Estate

Real Estate offers a wide variety of careers that range from Real Estate Sales ( A Real Estate Agent ), Property Management, Appraisal, Home Inspection and Home Building. These are the major fields that make up the real estate industry and account for a multiple billion dollar industry. Many people ask, is there money in real estate? Well just visit your book store and see how many books are out there about getting rich in Real Estate. I just searched Amazon and it returned over 16,000 books with Real Estate in the title. Wow! There must be money in it, Right? Well let’s examine some facts about the Real Estate Industry. The real estate industry in South Carolina sold more than 44,000 homes in 2004 and 55,000 home in 2005. That’s a lot of Mullah $$. What is 6% percent of that anyways? Of course all the growth occurred while interest rates were rising. So I think this answer the question “is there money in real estate”. During a real estate transaction there are many different people involved and making money during the process. During a normal real estate transaction you may have a Real Estate attorney, home inspector, appraiser, and lender. Each one is providing a different service to the transaction and each taking a little piece of the pie. Each field can be rewarding and enjoyable.
